Learn about the candidates

Visit the web site for each candidate and answer the following questions.
Answer all questions about one candidate before beginning to answer questions about another candidate.

  1. Read about the candidate's early life. List at least 3 important facts.
  2. What jobs has the candidate held as an adult?
  3. Has the candidate been elected to office before? If so, list the offices and the years the candidate served in those offices.
  4. What party does the candidate represent?
  5. Choose three issues that are important to you. List the candidate's stance on each of the issues. (Be sure to choose the same issues for the two candidates running for the same office.)
  6. Give information about any signs or TV advertisements you have seen supporting the candidate. What was good about the sign/ad? What graphic techniques did the candidate use in his/her sign to encourage you to vote for him/her? Did the ad use any distortion techniques? If so, what?

Choose a candidate to support

After you have done your research, choose a candidate to support. Using the issues that are important to you, create a campaign sign in Word to support your candidate. Use the following guidelines for creating your sign:
  • Be sure your sign is attractive so it will attract the attention of students here at our school.
    • Use alignment commands (left, right, center) to use the space well.
    • Use colors, sizes, and types of fonts to draw attention to your words.
    • Remember: It is easier to read a few words in larger size fonts than a lot of words in small fonts.
  • Include at least one issue and that candidate's stance on that issue.
  • Include at least one picture. You may find and save pictures from the website to use on your sign.
  • Copy and paste the website address on the bottom of your sign to give credit for the picture.
